Beverage Alcohol Sellers & Servers Education & Training - BASSET

CPASA offers Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Educational Training for local businesses that sell or serve alcohol. BASSET emphasizes responsible alcohol service. Every establishment that sells or serves alcohol in Bureau County, must ensure that employees are properly trained by July 2017 and every establishment that sells or serves alcohol in Bureau County must ensure that employees are properly trained by July 2018.

The goals and objectives of the B.A.S.S.E.T. Program are:

  • Train and educate sellers and servers to engage in responsible alcohol service;
  • Spot signs of intoxication and utilize various intervention techniques;
  • Prevent DUIs and alcohol-related fatalities;
  • Stop underage sales and underage drinking;
  • Create safer communities and establishments where alcohol is served;
  • Educate owners, managers and staff on dram shop insurance, state laws, and local ordinances regarding alcohol sales & service.

Topics Covered in B.A.S.S.E.T. Training



  • How alcohol affects the body
  • Blood alcohol concentration or BAC
  • Prevention and intervention techniques
  • Information about Illinois state laws and statutes pertaining to alcohol service
  • Proper techniques in checking ID's
  • Dram Shop law and liability

Participants will receive 4 hours of instruction required for certification through the Illinois Liquor Control Commission. Certificates will be issued upon completion of the course. The fee to participate in this class is $25.00. The class will be given by certified B.A.S.S.E.T. instructors, which can be provided at your worksite upon request. This training can also help to reduce an establishments' liquor liability insurance.
